Two days after the body of a Congress worker-Himani Narwal was found stuffed inside a suitcase near Sampla, Haryana Police arrested the prime suspect, a 30-year-old mobile repair shop owner, from Delhi’s Mundka on March 2.
Addressing a press conference on Monday (March 3, 2025), Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Rohtak Range, K.K. Rao identified the accused as Sachin, alias Dhillu, a resident of Jhajjar district. Police revealed that Sachin had been in contact with the victim, Himani, for over a year after befriending her on social media.
According to investigators, Sachin stayed overnight at Himani’s Vijay Nagar residence in Rohtak on February 27. The next day, a heated argument over money turned violent, and he allegedly strangled her using a mobile charger wire after tying her hands with her stole. Police believe the crime was not premeditated.
Following the murder, Sachin stole Himani’s jewellery, laptop, and other valuables, hiding them in his shop in Kanonda village. Later that night, he returned to her residence, packed the body and a blood-stained quilt cover into her suitcase, and transported it using an autorickshaw.
He then boarded a bus to Sampla, where he abandoned the suitcase in the bushes near the bus stop before fleeing. During interrogation, Sachin claimed that Himani had been blackmailing him for money, though police are still verifying these allegations. He was produced before a court on Monday and has been remanded to three days in police custody.
Authorities are now working to recover the stolen items. Himani, a social media content creator, had been associated with the Congress party for over a decade. While her mother and brother reside in Delhi, she lives alone in Rohtak. Her mother, Savita Rani, has alleged that envious party colleagues or friends may have been involved in her murder.
The case has sparked political controversy, with former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda condemning the incident and questioning the deteriorating law and order situation in Haryana.
