NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope made an exciting discovery last year—a planet that might be made of diamonds! This planet, called 55 Cancri e, is a "super-Earth" because it is much bigger and heavier than our planet.

It is about twice as wide as Earth and has nine times more mass. 55 Cancri e is located 41 light-years away from us, which is quite far. It orbits very close to its star, completing a full circle in just 17 hours! Because of this, the planet is extremely hot.

Scientists believe its surface can reach a scorching 2,400 degrees Celsius. At such high temperatures, rocks can melt, turning the planet into a sea of lava. One of the most fascinating things about 55 Cancri e is that it might contain a huge amount of diamonds.

Scientists think that about one-third of the planet’s mass could be made of pure diamond!

Instead of having mountains, oceans, and land like Earth, this planet may be covered in shiny crystals of carbon, like graphite and diamond. Researchers have also found that 55 Cancri e has a secondary atmosphere.

This could be due to volcanic activity, with gases being released from deep inside the planet. This makes it even more mysterious, as scientists are still trying to understand what exactly is happening there.

While Earth has water, rocks, and air, 55 Cancri e might be a burning-hot world of lava and diamonds. If future technology allows us to travel to such distant planets, who knows what other surprises we might find in space!
